All you need to know before you book a lesson

  • How old do you need to be to drive?
    You can start driving a car when you're 17. You can start driving a car when you are 16 if you get the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP). https://www.gov.uk/driving-lessons-learning-to-drive
  • When can I apply for my provisional licence?
    To apply for a provisional driving licence you must be at least 15 years and 9 months old and be able to read a number plate from 20 metres away. https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence
  • How can I apply for my provisional licence?
    You can collect a provisional licence application form (D1) from the post office or by applying online using the link below. The current cost (05/06/2019) for a provisional licence is £43. https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence
  • Can I start driving on my 17th birthday?
    Yes! Make sure to book your lessons before that date.
  • The Theory Test
    The theory test is used to test your knowledge of the rules & regulations of the road. It has two parts, the first part is a set of 50 multiple choice questions of which you must score at least 43. The second part is a hazard perception test which involves watching a collection of short videos and clicking anywhere on the screen when you see a hazard. You must score at least 44 out of 75.   • The Practical Test
    The practical part of the test involves driving as you normally would, but instead of us sitting next to you, an examiner sits there instead. The test costs (as of 05/06/2019) £62 for weekdays or £75 for evenings, weekends and bank holidays.   • Can I drive as soon as I've passed my practical test?
    Yes! Once you've passed, your examiner will give you a pass certificate which you can use until you receive your full driving licence. You will also need valid tax, MOT and insurance on your vehicle.
  • What is the Pass Plus course?
    The Pass Plus course is a practical training course that takes at least 6 hours and is for drivers to improve their skills on the road. It can be taken at anytime, but it is most useful to new drivers as it can help reduce insurance costs. https://www.gov.uk/pass-plus
